We’re still getting moved in

We’ve been in our home for 37 days now, and it’s starting to feel more normal. It’s been quite a shift from Arizona in many ways, and there’s been many ‘less fun’ things to do with getting ourselves established, such as getting permits, securing a boat and a place to moor it when we go into town, getting the vacation rentals ready, etc, etc. We’re also still settling our things into the new space, which has been challenging because we’re still locked out of one of the sheds on the property. The keys for it could not be found, and today I’m going to drill out the locks so that we can get in.

I also have a project going where I intend to 3d map the entire property, and overlay our trail system (which I’ve started to build) and all the structures on it. This way we can have a handy map to explain the property to guests as well as intelligently plan future projects (sheds, orchards, greenhouse, fish pond, treehouse(s), ADUs, trails, docks, etc). So far I’ve obtained some detailed LIDAR data that I’m working on putting into qGIS (a GIS mapping application) to generate the base model, then later will add photogrammetry point clouds generated from drones as well as GPS data from handheld units. First and foremost I want to establish accurate property lines, but that requires finding the survey markers, which is a real challenge with all of the dense undergrowth!
