CHAIR YOGA FOR STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY
Chair yoga is not just for those unable to ambulate or have balance problems. Actually, chair yoga can be quite versatile (e.g., for injuries and recovery, for stability with more challenging postures, balance issues). The chair is used for seated poses and movements as well as for stability with standing poses. Benefits include greater range of motion, improved posture, relieve from stiff muscles and fascia, to manage aches and pains, regain good posture, increase blood flow, and bring awareness to the breath and recruiting the parasympathetic nervous system for more balance and a sense of calm. Beyond the physical benefits there is research demonstrating the benefits for mood stability and stress management. Below is a 40-minute chair yoga video to help you get started with a safe and effective practice.
